About This Event

In this virtual seminar, Denise Pliskin, mechanical designer and project manager for Speck Design, goes through a phase based approach to product design and development – from ideation and research, concept design and refinements, to the steps to commercializing a product. Denise talks lightly about other none-design issues for entrepreneurs to consider. To illustrate the phases she uses a case study of a newly released products to illustrate what happens in each phase.

New Mexico Rainforest University Center Spring Seminar Series

UNM Rainforest Innovations and the Innovation Academy are hosting their spring 2021 University Center Seminar series. The New Mexico Rainforest University Center provides entrepreneurial training and technical assistance at the University of New Mexico main and branch campuses. The seminars are free and open to the UNM community and the public via web access, but registration is required.

A certificate program in entrepreneurial capabilities is available to UNM students and community members thru UNM’s Innovation Academy. If interested in the certificate program as part of the seminar series, please contact Cecilia Pacheco at cpacheco@innovations.unm.edu.

Speaker Bio

Denise calls upon her experience as a mechanical designer and project manager to develop product development strategies for Speck Design’s key clients.

Her background enables her to understand the real, everyday issues that companies face, including manufacturing issues, complex technical challenges, aggressive schedules and cost targets. Over her tenure at Speck she has been the design strategy lead for name brand clients such as Google, Facebook, and Apple as well as exciting new start-ups. In addition to shepherding new products to market, she has helped to build design departments both internal and external, helping with staffing, process, and cultural design.

About the New Mexico Rainforest University Center

The University Center program is funded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration to provide entrepreneurial training and technical assistance to individuals or small businesses who are looking to start or grow their idea. The platform for the training will be e-commerce, designed to assist any business with its digital presence.
