The New Mexico Rainforest University Center provides entrepreneurial training and technical assistance at the University of New Mexico main and branch campuses. The seminars/webinars are free and open to the UNM community and the public via in-person and/or web access, but registration is required. A certificate program in entrepreneurial capabilities is available to UNM students and community members thru UNM’s Innovation Academy. Branding & Trademarks – How a Strong Brand Builds Value

A brand can become the most valuable asset a business owns. Tragically, many businesses fail to research and protect the brands they build, often rendering them worthless or even damaging. This program will cover the basics of brand value and strategy to help creatives and businesses build strong and lasting IP assets. We will outline a practical approach to selecting brand elements and provide a framework for the enforcement of brand rights and how to respond to cease and desist letters. The program will be a useful guide, full of local and national examples that participants can use every day to create value for themselves and their clients.

Speaker Bio:

Seth is a New Mexico native, who grew up in his family’s retail business. His legal specialties include trademarks, contracts, payment systems, e-commerce, digital media and general business management. In addition to practicing law, he’s co-developer of a tech-flex office building in downtown Albuquerque and Co-owner of Surefi.com, an ad-tech company that combines proximity marketing with media targeting. Seth has represented and advised entrepreneurs on branding-related legal issues for over 20 years. When not practicing law, developing marketing or gathering specimens from his brewery clients, Seth can be found roaming the trails of the mountain west on skis, bikes or running shoes.

The University Center program is funded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration to provide entrepreneurial training and technical assistance to individuals or small businesses who are looking to start or grow their idea. The platform for the training will be e-commerce, designed to assist any business with its digital presence.
